MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has named Pfeiffer University soccer players Sara McCormack (Charlotte, NC) and Renato Barbosa (Charlotte, NC) as representatives on the all-southeast region teams for 2009. McCormack represents the Lady Falcons on the all-region second-team while Barbosa landed on the region’s third-team.
McCormack started all 19 matches this season on defense, playing in all but 49 minutes of the Lady Falcons 1,840. McCormack assisted Pfeiffer to post five shutouts during the regular season helping out a midseason, seven-match win streak by only allowing four goals in that stretch. The junior defender will look to anchor the Lady Falcons defense during her senior season in the fall of 2010.
Barbosa, a senior midfielder, scored six goals and seven assists during a 13-5 year for the Falcons that included a pair of home shutouts against #11 Anderson, 2-0, and #1 Lees-McRae 1-0. Barbosa netted the insurance goal against Anderson to start a three-match goal scoring streak halfway through the season. On four different occasions, Barbosa paced the Falcons with a goal and an assist in a single match, leading the team with seven assists on the year.
