INCOMING SWIMMER RACES AGAINST MICHAEL PHELPS AT NABC CHRISTMAS INVITATIONAL

MISENHEIMER, N.C. Incoming Pfeiffer University swimmer Charlie Melesh recently competed at the 2009 North Baltimore Aquatic Club Christmas Invitational swimming against U.S. Olympian and world-renowned swimmer Michael Phelps. Melesh, who will be entering Pfeiffer in the fall, went up against the medal-winning Phelps in the 200 Butterfly finals.

Melesh qualified to race against Phelps in the finals after a preliminary time of 1:57.21. Phelps, winner of eight gold medals at the recent summer games in Beijing, qualified at 1:48.97. Swimming out of the Naval Academy Aquatic Club, Melesh was one of nine swimmers competing against Phelps in the finals of the 200 fly. In the A-final, Melesh touched the pad fourth with a time of 1:54.12. Phelps won convincingly with a finals time of 1:42.29.
