MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Pfeiffer University women’s basketball team pulled down 54 total rebounds, 28 offensive, and saw 37 points come off the bench as the Lady Falcons stayed unbeaten in Conference Carolinas play with a 74-68 road win at Mount Olive on Monday night. Jamila Harris paced Pfeiffer with 15 points while Devona Knight put together another double-double with 10 points and 14 boards. The win pushes the Lady Falcons overall mark to 3-5 on the year, 3-0 inside league play. Despite a career-high 24 points from Shequanta McGee, the Trojans fall to 4-5, 3-1.
Pfeiffer held the lead for the entire first half holding a slim 36-34 lead at the break. Brittany Cox gave the visitors their largest lead of the night connecting on a three-pointer at the 6:09 mark for a 31-17, 14 point lead. Mount Olive would then take off on an 11-0 run, thanks to McGee and a three by Andrea Jones, cutting the lead down to 31-29. Harris, along with Ashley Zeek and Charlotte Fuller, stifled the Trojan run to hold the two-point lead after 20 minutes of play.
Out of the locker room, McGee tied things up for the Trojans with a basket inside the first minute of play. At the 16:33 mark of the second half, Mount Olive took their first lead of the night on a jumper by Meaghan Vanderhorst for a 42-41 lead. Both squads would trade baskets and leads halfway through the period as the contest saw a total of 13 lead changes and eight ties. Kellie Rhoney gave the Lady Falcons the lead for good knocking down a pair of free throws with just under two minutes to go. Domonique China tallied the final six points for Pfeiffer tossing in six-straight from the charity stripe.
In addition to Harris and Knight, Fuller concluded the night with a dozen points while Brittany Cox registered 11. For Mount Olive, Helen Moore followed McGee with 14 points followed by Jones’ 13 and Laporsha Davis scoring 11.
The Lady Falcons will now return home for the next pair of contests hosting Belmont Abbey on Saturday night and Coker on Monday. The Conference Carolinas action begins at 5:30 p.m. on both evenings.
