MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University shot 52% in the first half then had to fight off a second-half rally by Limestone College in 62-55 win over the Lady Saints in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball action on Thursday night in the Merner Gym. Pfeiffer saw a 15-point halftime lead evaporate before improving to 7-7 overall, 7-2 in league play. The loss sends Limestone to 6-8, 4-5.
The Lady Falcons led 33-18 at halftime, but the Saints came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Falcons 22-10 in the first 10 minutes of the second period. Limestone kept chipping away at Pfeiffer’s lead, pulling within one of the Falcons with 3:06 left to play at 52-51 after a made free-throw from Mitchell.
A three-pointer by Pfeiffer’s Kellie Rhoney gave the hosts the 55-51 lead, while a layup by Mitchell put the Saints back within two. However, a field goal by Christina Harvey (Locust Grove, VA) and made free-throws by Domonique China (Durham, NC) in the final minute gave the Falcons the victory.
Ashley Robinson (Whittier, NC) led Limestone with 12 points, while Nastashia Mitchell (Wildwood, FL) scored 11. Brittany Miller (Indianapolis, IN) had a team-high five rebounds and Lauren Pace (Suwannee, GA) tallied five assists.
The Falcons had four players reach double-scoring figures. Olivia Surratt (Morganton, NC) had 15 points, while Jamila Harris (Danville, VA) scored 13. Harvey had 12 and China finished with 11. Harris just missed having a double-double with 9 rebounds.
The Falcons out-rebounded Limestone 53-31. Pfeiffer shot 43.4% from the field (23-53) while the Saints shot 32.3% (20-62). Limestone converted 22 points from 32 Falcon turnovers. Limestone’s 15 turnovers resulted 12 points for the Falcons.
The Lady Falcons will continue their three-game homestand on Saturday night hosting the Flying Fleet of Erskine in the Merner Gym. Tip time is set for 5:30 p.m.
