DUE WEST, SC - The Lady Fleet broke their three game losing streak in style on Thursday evening as they blew past Conference Carolinas foe Pfeiffer University 79-67. After Thursday's win, Erskine stands at 8-12 overall and 7-9 in conference play before hitting the road for five straight away games. The Lady Falcons fall to 11-11 and 11-6.
Erskine, led by point guard Porsha Morgan, jumped out to a quick lead Thursday evening. The Fleet capitalized on the Falcon's turnovers and built a commanding 22-12 lead by the 11:18 mark. This lead was extended, with the aid of Morgan's 13 first half points, to 33-20 with a little under five minutes remaining until the break. The Falcons responded with a strong 19-6 run to close the half tied with the Fleet at 39.
Erskine came out of the locker room with a run of their own and opened up a 12 point lead within the first four minutes of second period. Pfeiffer tried to make a surge but could not muster enough momentum to entirely close the gap. The Falcons were able to draw to within 6 (56-50), but Erskine remained composed and went on the build their biggest lead of the game (69-54) with 7:08 left on the clock and cruise to the 79-67 win.
Erskine's starting five all scored in double figures on Thursday evening. Morgan led the way with a game high 25 points while also dishing out a team high 6 assists. Senior Audrey Timmerman was good for 15 while Neci Allen hit for 14 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Senior Mary Ann Langford added 13 points and 7 rebounds of her own to the Fleet effort and Elizabeth Tatum contributed 12 points and gathered 5 boards.
Pfeiffer's Celeste Caudill led the Falcons with 12 points, all of which came in the first half. Jamila Harris was the only other Falcon to reach double figures. Harris posted 10 points and gathered 5 rebounds on the night. Domonique China had also had a good showing with 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Erskine outscored the Falcons from the charity stripe 22-13. Pfeiffer had trouble protecting the ball Thursday as they suffered from 26 turnovers to Erskine's 16. The Falcons were able to edge out the Fleet in the rebounding battle 32-30.
Pfeiffer gets back to action on Saturday traveling to Belmont Abbey for a battle with the Crusaders. Tip time is set for 5:30 p.m.
