DEMERS PACES WOMEN'S GOLF TO 14TH PLACE FINISH AT NEWBERRY INVITATIONAL

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer University women’s golf team kicked off the 2010 spring season with a 14th place finish at the Newberry Invitational held Monday and Tuesday in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Chelsea Demers paced the Lady Falcons with a 47th place finish totaling 184.

Newberry won their own event finishing at the top of the 16-team field concluding nine strokes better than in-conference foe Carson-Newman. University of Montevallo’s Emily Gibson took home individual medalist honors with rounds of 78 and 79 for a two-day total of 157.

For Pfeiffer, led by Demers’ rounds of 93 and 91, Alison Cowles finished tied for 49th with a first round of 86 and two-day total of 186.  Jackie McMenimon concluded 54th at 187 while Rene Kelly capped her tournament 67th shooting 196. Elizabeth Johnson withdrew from the competition in round two.

The Lady Falcons next event will take place Monday and Tuesday, March 1-2 in the Campbell Invitational.
