GAMBLE, HEBBERD AND BINDER SCORE THREE EACH AS WOMEN'S LACROSSE ROLLS QUEENS 14-4 IN SEASON OPENER

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Three different Lady Falcons scored three goals apiece as Pfeiffer University rolled past Queens 14-4 in Conference Carolinas women’s lacrosse on Saturday afternoon. Allie Gamble (Easton, MD), Sarah Hebberd (Golden, CO) and Tory Binder (Woodstock, MD) each notched a hat trick as the Lady Falcons win their 2010 season opener while the Royals fall to 0-2 overall.

Pfeiffer struck just 49 seconds in as Jessica Kennedy (Perth, AUSTRALIA) quickly tallied her first of the season. Queens would square the contest on a Brittany Barnwell (Lorton, VA) goal before the Lady Falcons regained the lead with a Hebberd strike at 24:12. Again, Barnwell would tie the contest 2-2 with her second score 45 seconds later.

With just over 17 minutes to play in the first half, Hebberd found the back of the cage again to give the hosts a 3-2 advantage. A late score by Gamble with 78 seconds to go gave the Lady Falcons a 4-2 lead at the break.

Queens fought back to make it a one-goal game 4:31 into the second period as Caitlin O’Rourke (Winter Springs, FL) hit to make it 4-3. From there, Pfeiffer would go on to register the next nine goals opening up Saturday’s contest. Alex Cook (Commack, NY) would score her first of the season in between two Binder strikes while Natalie Marvin (South Berwick, ME), Kennedy, Gamble and Binder would all score in a 4:45 span to put Pfeiffer up 11-3.

Gamble would then assist on Hebberd’s third of the day at the 10:53 mark before Heidi Karasckiewicz (Glen Burnie, MD) recorded her first of the year putting the Lady Falcons up ten. Brittany Philip (Painted Post, NY) scored the final goal for Queens with just over seven minutes to play before Gamble finished off the day’s scoring with 17 ticks left on the clock.

Kennedy had a game-high seven ground balls for Pfeiffer, followed closely by Binder’s six. Barnwell had the two goals to pace Queens with Taylor Kuhn (Lewis Center, OH) and Alison Doron (Zionsville, IN) each recording three ground balls. Caitlin Ryan (Perth, AUSTRALIA) earned the win in goal stopping four shots. Kaitlin Booth (Winter Springs, FL) stopped both shots she faced, relieving Ryan with 7:10 to play.

Pfeiffer will return to N.E. Lefko Field on Monday afternoon in the Conference Carolinas opener. The Lady Falcons will host the Lady Fleet from Erskine beginning at 3:30 p.m.
