MISENHEIMER, N.C. Pfeiffer University and Barton College split two closely contested Conference Carolinas softball games on Wednesday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field. The Lady Falcons needed a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh in game one by Bryttny Kreshka (Roseburg, OR) while the Lady Bulldogs bailed themselves out of a seventh-inning jam in game two to survive 2-1. Pfeiffer moves to 12-16 overall, 4-4 in league play while Barton advances to 9-14, 2-2.

GAME ONE: Pfeiffer 1, Barton 0

Sam Taylor (Surrey, British Columbia) started the one-out rally in the seventh with a free pass to first. Lindsey Phillips (Erie, PA) came in to pinch-run and scampered to second on a groundout by Andrea Wagner (Wauseon, OH). Kreshka then delivered with the base hit to right, scoring Phillips from second, to end game one.

Both teams had a couple of early chances in previous innings with runners at second and two outs, but neither side could come up with the big hit. Besides Phillips in the seventh, Kreshka was the only previous base runner to reach third base as it happened with two outs in the fifth.

Kreshka had two of the four Lady Falcon hits in the opener while starter Allison Braswell (Asheboro, NC) tossed a complete-game two-hitter in the victory. Stacy Wade (Snow Hill, NC) and Natalie Phipps (Durham, NC) had the hits for Barton.

GAME TWO: Barton 2, Pfeiffer 1

Game two started with five blank innings as Pfeiffer starter Melanie Conklin (Wellington, OH) had a perfect game brewing through 3.2 innings. Lady Bulldog hurler Kendall Street (Windsor, NC) was equal to the task having a no-hitter through 3.1 frames.

Barton put their two on the board in the sixth as Michole Brown (Wilson, NC) started with an infield single, later scoring on a bunt back to the mound by Wade. The eventual game-winner for the Lady Bulldogs came around on a passed ball as Jessica McFadden (Wilmington, NC) raced home from third.

In the Pfeiffer seventh, the frame began with back-to-back base hits by Heather Nobles (Angier, NC) and Kirsten Patterson (Anthem, AZ). An infield single by Mikaela Strickland (Bonifay, FL) plated Nobles before Wagner dropped a sacrifice bunt down to move Strickland to second, Patterson to third.
Kreshka followed with a groundball to short, reaching first on a throwing error, but Patterson had wandered too far off of third as a snap throw suddenly became out number two. Kylee Nichols (McMinville, OR) then popped out to short to end game two.

Jordan Humphrey (Wilmington, NC) earned the save for starter Street who tossed six frames, allowing just the one run on two hits. Conklin took the tough luck loss throwing five innings, allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts.

Pfeiffer gets back to league action on Saturday, traveling to Coker for a 1:00 p.m. matchup with the Lady Cobras.
