HIGH POINT, N.C. – Pfeiffer University’s Alyssa Wombwell has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women’s soccer Player of the Week during week number three in the 2010 season. The junior midfielder tallied four of Pfeiffer University's six goals in a 1-1 week for the Lady Falcons women's soccer program.
Wombwell netted the game-tying goal heading home her second of the year, just inside the six-yard box, during a 2-1 league loss at Queens. On Saturday, Wombwell added three more strikes to her running total and an assist in a 5-2 win over the Lady Fleet. The midfielder's first of the day came just 14 seconds into the contest with a top shelf shot for a 1-0 lead. Wombwell then turned right around to assist on a Devon Klyce goal 15 minutes later for a 2-0 halftime lead.
Ahead 2-1 in the second half, Wombwell created breathing room in the 55th minute with her second of the afternoon, before adding insurance during a 3-2 advantage in the 69th minute for a 4-2 game. For the season, Wombwell has five goals with two assists averaging two points per contest.
Wombwell and the Lady Falcons will get back to action on Wednesday night traveling to UNC-Pembroke for a 7:00 p.m. match. Pfeiffer returns home on Saturday hosting Limestone at 12:00 p.m.
