WINGATE, N.C. – For the second year in a row, the Pfeiffer University women’s cross country team finished in second place at the 2010 Bulldog Stampede hosting by Wingate University on Saturday morning. The Lady Falcons, led by junior Kaitlyn Mullis’ individual finish of fourth place with a time of 21:06 in the 5k race, finished with 77 points. Wingate’s white team won the event with 27 points.
Mullis stayed at the front of the pack setting a mile pace of five minutes and 40 seconds. Rachel Biggerstaff crossed the line second for the Lady Falcons with a top-15 finish with a time of 23:52. Fellow sophomore Yasmin Ingram finished just 23 seconds behind Biggerstaff in 18th place.
Carrie Early brought home Pfeiffer’s fourth-points of the day with a time of 24:32 as the 23rd runner to cross the stripe. April Hinson concluded the Lady Falcons top five scores with a 31st place finish in 25:13.
Other runners for Pfeiffer saw Nina Ubabuike finish with a time of 28:34 while freshman Ashley Stutts, running in her first collegiate race, clocked in with a time of 28:53.
"The girls had a great race today,” said head coach Scott Nolt. “Watching the race, I knew we ran very competitively, but never would have thought we finished second. Katilyn Mullis had a great day. She wasn't 100% this week, and to go out and finish 4th overall was incredible."
The Lady Falcons will next take part in the Hagan Stone Classic on Saturday, October 2nd in Greensboro, N.C.
