MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University fired 14 shots on goal notching a pair of second half goals in a 3-0 shutout of Converse College on Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas women’s soccer action at N.E. Lefko Field. The Lady Falcons honored six seniors before the match on senior day as they improve to 8-5 overall, 5-2 in league play. The Valkyries see the loss dip their record to 2-11-1, 1-5-1.
Pfeiffer got on the board in the 21st minute with Jessica Moulton (Huntingtown, MD) finding the back of the net after coming close earlier in the match. Back in the seventh minute of play, Moulton fired a shot on goal only to see Converse keeper Ashley Mercuri (Mississauga, ONTARIO) deflect her save off the post to her right and back into play. Moulton would later cash in her second of the year blasting a shot into the cage after an end line cross by Megan Reaves (Mims, FL).
Just 2:06 into the second half, Pfeiffer made it a two-goal advantage as a Megan Weston (Olathe, KS) corner kick deflected off of Lindsay Godwin (Raleigh, NC) and over to Sheena Regan (Chesapeake, VA) who touched in her third of the year. Scoring concluded in the 72nd minute as Mariah Martinez (League City, TX) sent a cross on the end line and inside the 18 over to Rachael Shapelow who headed home goal number two of the year.
Converse had a pair of late shots in the contests, both on goal, by Rebecca Dupre (Pine Bluff, NC) and Lisa Ryan (Burlington, NC). Both attempts were turned away by Amanda Wemple (Hayden Lake, ID) who made her first start of the season in net for the Lady Falcons.
Pfeiffer will return home on Tuesday afternoon playing in their final regular season home match of 2010. The Lady Falcons will continue their quest to host Conference Carolinas tournament matches by hosting Coker at 3:00 p.m.
