HIGH POINT, N.C. – Pfeiffer University’s Kim Amerell has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women’s volleyball Player of the Week during week number eight in the 2010 season. This marks the second-straight week a Lady Falcon has taken player of the week honors with Kristina Mordini winning the award last week.
Amerell, a freshman from Lynchburg, VA, propelled the Lady Falcons to a 3-1 week, winning their fifth-straight and eight of their last nine inside league play. The streak continued with a 3-1 win over Belmont Abbey as the outside hitter hit .429 with 11 kills in addition to three aces and popping up 10 digs. The freshman followed that up with a .409 hitting percentage in a sweep of Limestone adding 10 more kills, an ace and pair of digs.
During Saturday’s tri-match, Amerell picked up a match-high 19 kills hitting .385 in a tight loss to Lenoir-Rhyne, before finishing with a half-dozen more kills in a quick sweep over Virginia Union. Amerell set new career-highs this past week in kills vs. Lenoir-Rhyne, hitting percentage and overall hitting percentage for the week. The Lady Falcons improve to 9-13 overall and 8-5 in the conference.
Amerell and the Lady Falcons will get back to action on Wednesday night traveling to Queens for a 6:30 p.m. match before hosting Erskine on “Dig for the Cure” night on Friday.
