MARTINEZ JUST MISSES GAME-WINNER; WOMEN'S SOCCER DRAWS 0-0 AT NEWBERRY KEEPING SHUTOUT STREAK ALIVE

MISENHEIMER, NC - Pfeiffer University and host Newberry battled to a 0-0 draw in double overtime action on Tuesday afternoon. Mariah Martinez (League City, T.X.) had the best opportunity of the match hitting the crossbar on the game's final shot with 23 seconds remaining. Pfeiffer blanks its fourth-straight opponent not allowing a goal in the last 437 minutes and 20 seconds.

Newberry (4-11-1) fired off 17 shots, five on goal, but failed to put the game winner in the back of the net. Pfeiffer (10-5-1), which is ranked eighth in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, outshot the Wolves with 17, nine on goal.

Newberry goalie Megin Hrenchir (Lawrence, Kan.) stopped all nine Falcon attempts at goal, playing the full 110 minutes in front of the net.

The Wolves were led offensively by freshman Bianca Warder’s (Irmo, S.C.) three shots. Junior Jesse Langdon (Raleigh, N.C.) took two shots, both on goal, with teammates Amberly Fowler (Greenville, S.C.), Meagan Heney (Ajax, Ontario, Canada) and Tiffany Kinner (North Myrtle Beach, S.C.) each taking two shots as well.

Pfeiffer was led by Alyssa Wombwell (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and Megan Reaves (Mims, Fla.) who each had four shots and two on target.

Pfeiffer will wrap up the 2010 regular season on Saturday at St. Andrews. The Lady Falcons, still looking for a shot at the #2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament, will kick off at 1:00 p.m. with the Knights.
