LIMESTONE CAN'T MISS FROM LONG RANGE AS MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS 88-67 DESPITE WOODS' 30

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Limestone College drained 13 three-point baskets seeming to never miss in an 88-67 win over Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas men’s basketball action on Saturday night in the Merner Gym. The victory keeps the Saints unbeaten in league play improving to 10-2, 5-0, while the Falcons snap their brief two-game win streak falling to 6-5, 4-1.

Limestone’s Michael Barrett (Virginia Beach, VA) set the tone early on with his first triple of the night 69 seconds in before hitting on another just 1:35 later for an early 8-5 lead. A three-point play by Chris Woods (Thomasville, NC) squared the contest at 11 with 11:57 to play while the Saints took the lead for good a minute later on a layup by Jarrell Douglass (Leesburg, FL).

The Saints began to close out the first half on a 20-6 run with triples from Ashton Ford (Charlotte, NC) and Ryan Bogdan (Charleston, SC). Stewart Clark  (Atlanta, GA) hit on the Saints fifth and final three of the half to put the visitors up as much as 17, but a pair of Reggie Hollinger (Orlando, FL) free throws cut the Pfeiffer deficit down to 15, 36-21, at the intermission.

After a quick lay in by Douglass to start the second half, the Falcons trimmed the lead down to a dozen on another Woods three-point play and layup by Hollinger. Another rapid 10-2 spurt by Limestone quickly pushed the lead to 20 on another Bogdan triple and jumper by Douglass just four minutes into the final stanza.

Woods and Josh Humphrey (Matthews, NC) each got the Falcons to within 16 on a free throw and jumper, but Bogdan, Ford, and Clark would continue to connect from long distance to preserve the healthy Limestone lead. Humphrey’s layup with 3:31 to play cut the lead down to 15 on a last-chance comeback until Limestone finished off the hosts with a 10-4 run to run away with the win.

In addition to their 39 points from long range, Limestone balanced their attack with 40 points coming in the paint. The Saints shot 48% from the field overall, out-rebounding the Falcons 45-34. Pfeiffer connected on 36% of their shots on Saturday, draining six triples, while going 15-of-17 from the charity stripe.

Douglass led the Saints with a double-double putting in 21 points with 11 rebounds. Four others for Limestone finished in double figures as Clark scored 15, while Danny Friend (Morrow, GA) and Barrett chipped in with 13. Bogdan concluded with 12 going 4-for-8 from long distance. For Pfeiffer, Woods continued his season-long tear with 30 points and 11 rebounds nearly having another perfect night at the free throw line. Hollinger was the only other Falcon in double figures scoring 12.

Pfeiffer will now take a much-needed three days off before hosting the University of D.C. on Wednesday night. The non-conference tilt will begin at 7:00 p.m.
