MUNCIE, I.N. – For the first time in program history, the Pfeiffer University men’s volleyball team got their first taste of big time division one action at Ball State on Friday night. Playing in the 11,000-seat Worthen Arena, the Falcons fell to the host Cardinals 3-0 (14-25, 12-25, 22-25) in front of 617 fans. Ball State, ranked #12 in the nation, improve to 4-3 with the win while the Falcons fall to 3-2.
Nerves hung around for the first couple of sets until the Falcons settled down in the final stanza. Pfeiffer hit .333 in the third set falling to the Cardinals by just three. The Ball State roster, which is full of players six-foot five and taller, hit .443 in the win with nine total team blocks.
Pfeiffer’s Drew Burdette led the way with eight kills on the night hitting .312. Michael McLaughlin followed with a half dozen kills. Evan Fullerton dished out 21 assists and led the way with six digs. The Cardinals Greg Herceg and Jamion Hartley each had six kills in the win.
The Falcons will now wrap up the Ball State weekend in action on Saturday against Mount St. Joseph’s. Match time is set for 5:30 p.m. back inside Worthen Arena.
