MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University placed five scorers in double figures hitting 11 triples on the night as the Lady Falcons scored an 88-52 victory over St. Andrews in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball action on Monday night. Brittany Cox (Winston-Salem, NC) led all scorers with 19 as Pfeiffer improves to 10-12 overall, 9-7 in league play. The loss holds the Lady Knights winless at 0-21, 0-17.
The Lady Falcons started fast with a 16-6 lead after back-to-back three pointers from Cox and Kellie Rhoney (Catawba, NC). A pair of baskets from the Lady Knights’ Kimayah Fulcher (New Bern, NC) and Natalie Whitman (North Tonawanda, NY) cut the lead down to seven with 10:20 to play in the first half.
After Vontreece Hayes (Greensboro, NC) put Pfeiffer back up 17 with 5:52 to go, the Lady Falcons closed out the half with free throws from Celeste Caudill (Sparta, NC) and Sam Craven (Asheboro, NC) to take a 47-26 into the break.
Scoring quickly continued in the second half as a triple from Cox pushed the advantage out to 30 with 14:32 on the clock. A minute and a half later, Charlotte Fuller (Moorestown, NJ) put home a layup for a 34 point lead coming up on the halfway point of the second. Pfeiffer held as much as a 40 point lead late in the half, but the final basket of the night belonged to the Lady Knights’ Natia Gasque (Georgetown, SC) leading to the 88-52 final.
Behind Cox, Craven finished the night with a dozen points while Christina Harvey (Locust Grove, VA) concluded with 11. Rhoney and Vontenea Williams (Granite Falls, NC) each wrapped up with 10. For St. Andrews, Gasque and Whitman each posted double-doubles in the loss as Gasque registered 16 points and 11 boards while Whitman went with 11 and 10.
Pfeiffer will have a couple of days off before embarking on a three-game road trip on Thursday night. The first of three away from Merner Gym will take place at Barton on Thursday night.
