MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University took advantage of six Carson-Newman errors on Wednesday afternoon to register a 6-1 victory in non-conference baseball action at Joe Ferebee Field. The win moves the Falcons to 5-4 overall while the Eagles drop their fifth-straight going to 3-7.
Pfeiffer struck in the first as a Matt Wade (Chapel Hill, NC) single paid off after back-to-back base hits from Aarin Sharpe (Winterville, NC) and Jon Gray (Granite Falls, NC). Wade plated on Gray’s knock to right-center.
Each team traded runs in the fifth as Carson-Newman used a RBI-double from Jonathan Dalton (Rutledge, TN) while the Falcons benefitted from the first Eagle error of the day as Hunter Boehme (Winston-Salem, NC) scored via Preston Lyon (Gastonia, NC) reaching on the miscue.
Pfeiffer plated two more in the sixth as four errors stacked up against Carson-Newman. Tyler Smith (Locust, NC) reached on a fielding error at third that brought home Mike Green (Brandon, FL) before Smith came in on a RBI-single from Jacob Yates (Blairs, VA). Insurance came in the eighth as Boehme and Yates scored runners with back-to-back one-out RBI-singles.
Falcon starter Ethan Marsh (Asheboro, NC) got the win tossing 5.1 innings allowing one run on seven hits with six strikeouts. Yates, Sharpe and Boehme each had two hits for the Falcons while Yates also added a pair of RBI. Dalton, along with Troy Zawadzki (Shrewsbury, MA) had two hits for the Eagles.
