CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Pfeiffer University put three scorers in double figures and held Queens University of Charlotte to just 33% from the floor grabbing a 66-57 win over the Royals in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball action on Saturday night at the Ovens Athletic Center. The Lady Falcons shot 46% in the win improving to 12-12 overall, 11-7 in league play. The drop their fourth-straight contest dipping to 10-13, 9-8.
Pfeiffer held the lead for the majority of the first half led by Cox’s 13 points. The Lady Falcons shot 49% in the half, better than Queens’ 37.5%, but trailed 30-28 at the intermission. Pfeiffer jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead after a triple by Cox and held the lead until the six minute mark when Marissa Hudley drained a jumper to give the Royals their first advantage of the night at 17-16. Cox, along with Kellie Rhoney, each hit long range threes late in the half, but a layup by Erin Goldner put the hosts up two at the break.
In the second half, the Lady Falcons grabbed the lead for good just 3:10 into the period as a layup by Celeste Caudill made it a 34-32 visitors lead. Coming up on the halfway point of the second, Pfeiffer cruised out on a 13-0 run to pull away from the Royals. Shelley Reese knocked down back-to-back triples to deliver the final blows.
Cox paced the Lady Falcons with 21 while Caudill had 16 in front of Reese’s 14. Pfeiffer shot an identical 45.8% from the floor in both halves hitting on eight threes in the win. For Queens, Marissa Hudley scored a game high 22 while Dyonna Battle chipped in with 13.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Tuesday wrapping up their current three-game road trip at Coker. The Lady Falcons and Lady Cobras will tip at 5:30 p.m.
