RESULTS VS. @BELMONT ABBEY (2008-01-19 19:30:00)

PFEIFFER DEFEATS 1ST PLACE TEAM
Carr makes game winner

The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team won at Belmont Abbey 91-89 Saturday night, in a game that was almost canceled due to inclement weather. With 30 seconds on the clock and the Falcons down two points, Thomas Carr made the game winning shot with a deep 3-pointer, something he had done four other times in the second half. Pfeiffer was down as many as twelve points in the second half and Carr's shot gave them their first lead over the final fifteen minutes of the game. Pfeiffer held Abbey scoreless in seven of it's final eight possessions, including three in a row after taking the lead. Craig Thomas and Mike Johnson had game winning defensive rebounds and Josh Roper had the steal of the game over these three final possessions. Carr had 21 points on 6-11 from the 3-point line and Logan Call had 11 points and four assists. Sophomore Josh Roper made two big baskets down the stretch against the first place Crusaders who were 7-1 in conference play and undefeated at home. Freshmen Q Maxwell had 11 points five assists and zero turnovers and Chris Woods led the Falcons with seven rebounds and was also 3-3 from the field.

"What an incredible road win for our team," said Pfeiffer coach Dave Davis. "Our seniors
were outstanding tonight. Thomas went crazy in the second half making long bombs that led our comeback. Craig Thomas was terrific going 4-7 from the field with six rebounds and two huge rebounds late. The leadership we are getting from these two is not only holding this young team together but has it winning first place games on the road. My assistant coach Stott Carter, made a defensive and offensive second half adjustment that made a huge difference in our coming back. Josh Roper made big shots for us with the game on the line and Q ran the point for the final five minutes of the game. Abbey played outstanding, particularly at the start of the second half, but this Pfeiffer team never gives up and has proven time and again that they are capable of coming back from any deficit. We really made plays in the final three minutes tonight."

Pfeiffer has won 9 of it's last 10 games and is 9-4 overall and 5-2 in Conference Carolina's. The Abbey win started a stretch of seven games in 15 days. The Falcons are at Coker Monday and back at home Thursday vs. Anderson.
