MILLEDGEVILLE, G.A. – A pair of errors midway through Sunday afternoon’s series finale by Pfeiffer University proved costly as third-ranked Georgia College and State completed the weekend sweep with a 5-2 win over the Falcons. The Bobcats scored their fifth-straight win improving to 8-2 overall while the Falcons dip to 5-7.
After a single run in the first and second innings put the host Bobcats up 2-0, Pfeiffer squared the contest and showed signs of life with two in the top half of the third. Jacob Yates started the frame with a single to right and later moved to second on a GCSU balk. Preston Lyon continued his weekend hitting at the plate with a double to right-center to bring home Yates. After Lyon moved to third on a Bobcat error, Eric Shoemaker would plate Lyon with the tying run on a base hit to left.
Georgia College and State used three-straight base hits to open up their fifth before scoring the go ahead run on the first Falcon miscue. In the sixth, a leadoff double, sacrifice bunt and a mishandled glove at first led to the two-run sixth.
Pfeiffer will now look to snap its three-game skid on Tuesday returning home for a 2:00 p.m. matchup with Tusculum. The Pioneers scored a 20-11 season-opening win over the Falcons back on February 5th. Live stats and live audio will be available through www.gofalconsports.com.
