HIGH POINT, N.C. - For the second consecutive week, Pfeiffer University’s Melanie Conklin has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Softball Pitcher of the Week during week number five in the 2011 season. The Wellington, OH native tossed 10.2 innings including a two-hit complete game shutout at Queens in a perfect 4-0 week for the Lady Falcons.
In game two against Fayetteville State on Tuesday, Conklin tossed three innings in relief allowing nothing except six strikeouts, going a perfect nine-up, nine-down.
On Saturday at Queens, Conklin threw her complete game shutout gem in the opener fanning eight in the victory. Wrapping up the afternoon, Conklin got Pfeiffer out of a jam and picked up the save with a strikeout as one of her two final outs. This is the second week this year Conklin has received this award, repeating the honor from last week. Pfeiffer is currently 11-9 overall and 6-0 in the conference.
Conklin and Pfeiffer will be back in action on Wednesday hosting Coker in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
