WILSON, N.C. Ė Pfeiffer University scored a pair of 6-3 victories over Barton College on Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas menís and womenís tennis action. The men swept through doubles play before holding off the Bulldogs late while the Lady Falcons had to rally after doubles to pick up the win. The men improve to 4-1 overall, 1-0 in league play while the Lady Falcons move to 5-5, 2-1.
In menís play, after the Falcons scored all three points in doubles action, Pfeiffer split their six singles contests to pull out the win. Philip Lawson and Johan de Wit won in the first and second singles positions while Stephen Tyndel notched a point at #6. Lawson was up 7-6, 3-0 before his Barton opponent retired while de Wit won in straight-sets 6-2, 6-3. Tyndel was also victorious in straight-sets two and two.
On the womenís side, Catie Thomas and Briana Oliver notched the only doubles point early, before the Lady Falcons took over winning five of the six singles matches en route to the win. Alena Krutkina and Kayleigh Featherstone needed three sets to pull off the point while Thomas, Cari Hopson and Oliver rolled in straight-sets.
