BELMONT, N.C. – A second half flurry of nine goals, led by Steven Tilmon putting home four of his game high five, led Pfeiffer University to its sixth-straight win with an 11-4 victory at Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas men’s lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons improve to 7-1 overall, 2-1 in league play, while the Crusaders drop to 3-4, 0-2.
Each team traded goals in the first two periods for a 2-2 contest at the half. Tilmon put home his first of the day with 9:01 left in the first while the Crusaders Ryan Corrigan evened things up 3:36 later. In the second, Matt Spivey gave Belmont Abbey a 2-1 lead with a goal six seconds in while the Falcons responded with a Justin Rose strike four minutes before the half.
Things would open up for Pfeiffer in the third quarter as the visitors would score four unanswered to take a 6-2 lead. Tilmon would score half of those four with Justin Rose and Kory Lutes adding the others. After the Crusaders’ Dan Morrissey scored with 2:04 to play in the third, Pfeiffer would open up the fourth scoring three more outscoring Belmont Abbey 9-2 in the second half.
Tilmon started the fourth as he did the first and third with tallies with Rose went back-to-back with a man-up goal and even-strength strike. After Tanner Scharr registered the final Crusaders goal, James Shepherd and Tilmon finished off the second-straight league win with a pair of goals for the seven point win.
Goalkeeper Hayden Kirk made seven saves in the crease for Pfeiffer while Anthony Lamarca led with four caused turnovers. Five different Falcons had a team-high four groundballs in the win.
Pfeiffer will look for their seventh-in-a-row in non-conference action Saturday at Wingate. The Falcons and Bulldogs will face-off at 2:00 p.m.
