MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University won 19-of-23 draw controls while Shannon Bonnel (Mechanicsville, MD) put home a game-high four goals as the Lady Falcons claimed a 15-6 victory over Belmont Abbey College in Conference Carolinas women’s lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon. Pfeiffer improves to 5-4 overall, 2-0 in league play, while the Crusaders fall to 1-5, 1-1.
Pfeiffer got on the board early with three-straight started by Bonnel’s first of the day two minutes in while Alex Cook (Commack, NY) and Natalie Marvin (South Berwick, ME) each hit two minutes apart. Belmont Abbey’s Elyse Mohn (Huntingtown, MD) put the visitors on the board with 23:06 left in the first half.
The Lady Falcons would reel off the next six-straight to open up Thursday’s contest. Bonnel added her final three in the six minute stretch while Sarah Hebberd (Golden, CO), Cook and Marvin had the others. Belmont Abbey would rally with three of the final four in the half for a 10-4 contest at the break.
Out of the intermission Rachel Hebberd (Golden, CO) and Katherine Athens (Huntingtown, MD) hit back-to-back four minutes apart while Liz Melesh (Annapolis, MD) scored twice in 42 seconds for the final pair of goals. After Cook finalized Pfeiffer scoring with 9:54 left, Susan Killeavy (Austin, TX) and Rebecca Diggs (Severna Park, MD) each struck to finish the afternoon.
Pfeiffer will get back into league play on Saturday hosting Converse at 12:00 p.m.
