MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University closed out their 2011 home slate with a pair of non-conference victories over Shaw University in softball action on Saturday morning at Jack Ingram Field. The Lady Falcons scored 10-2 and 2-1 wins to improve to 18-26 overall while the Bears fall to 11-38.
An RBI triple by Celia Dew started things off in the first while she later scored on a passed ball. After Shaw got on the board with a solo homer in the second, the Lady Falcons got that run right back with a sacrifice-fly by Hannah Jackson in the third. Pfeiffer blew it open with a five run fourth beginning with an Andrea Wagner RBI double. Jackson and Dew each picked up the other RBI while two final runs scored on passed balls.
Pfeiffer helped end game one early in the fifth inning as an RBI double from Brinkley Johnson and RBI single by Wagner gave the hosts a 10-2, five inning game one win. Senior Allison Braswell, playing in her final home game with Sarah Waylock, got the win striking out five.
In the one-run nightcap win, Pfeiffer got all of the run production they needed with a two-run double off the bat of Waylock in the bottom of the first. Another solo dinger accounted for the Bears run in the fifth.
Shelby Brown grabbed the game two win with a complete game two-hitter striking out a season-high 13. Waylock finished game two 3-for-3 with her two RBI.
