CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Pfeiffer University women's volleyball team scored two more victories on Saturday afternoon to move to a perfect 3-0 with a pair of 3-1 wins over St. Augustine's and Winston-Salem State. For her efforts, sophomore Kim Amerell, reigning conference player of the year, was named to the all-tournament team.
Taking on St. Augustine's at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, after a 25-13 set one win, stumble in set two 16-25, the Lady Falcons rallied for convincing 25-12 and 25-14 victories to take the match. Amerell led the way with a match-high 17 kills with Cate Glendenning tossing up 32 assists. On defense, Milana Mervosh led the way with 13 digs. As a team, Pfeiffer hit over .300 in set one and three wins.
Battling the Rams of Winston-Salem State later in the afternon. Pfeiffer again grabbed a set one win before stumbling in set two. Set three and four wins assured the Lady Falcons of a 3-0 start to begin 2011 led again by Amerell's 14 kills. Jordan O'Bryant followed closely behind with 10. Glendenning also put up 37 assists in the win with libero Taylor Houser popping up 15 digs.
Pfeiffer will now look forward to its home opener on Tuesday, September 6th hosting cross-town rival Catawba at 7:00 p.m. Live stats and video will be available through http://www.gofalconsports.com.
