WOMBWELL CONVERTS TWO PENALTY KICKS AS WOMEN'S SOCCER SPOILS COKER'S HOMECOMING 4-0

HARTSVILLE,  S.C. – Three second half goals opened up a 1-0 game as Pfeiffer University pulled out a 4-0 victory at host Coker College in Conference Carolinas women’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon. Alyssa Wombwell (Grand Blanc, MI) registered a pair of penalty kick goals to lead the Lady Falcons to 4-6 overall, 3-3 in league play. The Cobras drop to 1-10, 1-4 as Pfeiffer spoiled homecoming weekend.

Pfeiffer held a commanding 22-4 shots advantage, putting 13 on goal. The Lady Falcons defense in addition to posting the shutout, didn’t allow a single shot on goal, making a fairly easy day in net for goalkeeper Amanda Wemple (Hayden Lake, ID).

Wombwell started the day converting her first PK in the 22nd minute after a foul by Coker inside the 18-yard box for the only strike in the first half.

In the second, Ashley Harrington (Albemarle, NC) started the three-goal spurt after an assist from Tish Patino (East Bend, NC) in the 65th minute. Wombwell put home her second of the day just six minutes later before freshman Hannah Hill (Monroe, NC) slammed home her first of the year after a cross from Katie Collins (Concord, NC).

Rachel Solomon and Emily Morrow each fired two shots for the Cobras while Haley Gibson made nine saves in net.

Pfeiffer will now move to Limestone wrapping up their three-game road trip on Thursday. Live stats will be available through http://www.gofalconsports.com.
