WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - In their last race before Conference Carolinas competition, Pfeiffer’s men’s team placed second and the women’s team took third place at the Wilbur Ross Invitational hosted by Winston-Salem State. The Falcons put their top five runners in the top fifteen during the 5k race. Winston-Salem State’s Andrew Chebii ran a 15:55, over thirty seconds faster than the next runner, to win the individual title.
Junior Will Oliver ran a 17:20 to place fifth, with sophomore Josh Roberts coming right after with a 17:31. Sophomore Trey Sharpe posted a tenth place finish with a 17:51 and fellow sophomore Cody Bivens ran an 18:03 to place twelfth, with freshman Jeff McClure finishing afterward, running 18:14. Sophomore’s Cody Jones (18:31) and Joseph Sutlive (18:41), returning to competition after battling an injury, finished next for the team, placing within the field’s top twenty. Junior Zack Allen (18:52) and sophomore Fred Travis (20:15) rounded out the day for the Falcons.
The Lady Falcons, also running the 5k course, were led by senior Kaitlyn Mullis in fifth place with a 20:48, followed closely by freshman Justine Serje, running a 20:54 to place seventh, and junior Vlada Mouravieva, running a 20:56 to finish eighth. Freshman Megan Hunsucker ran a 21:33 to finish thirteenth. Junior Rachel Biggerstaff finished the top five team score with a 23:20, with sophomore Nina Ubabuike (25:09) and junior April Hinson (25:30) rounding out the team for the day. Winston-Salem State’s Brittney Killebrew won the individual title with a 19:55.
The Falcons return to competition in two weeks for the Conference Carolinas Meet at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, NC on October 21st.
