MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Already cancelling the first two weeks of the NBA season and on the verge of scrapping the rest of the 2011-2012 season with players and owners arguing over millions of dollars, Pfeiffer University would like to “unlock” an economically-minded basketball option for the true season-ticket-holding fans of the NBA.
The Pfeiffer University athletics department will offer free season tickets for their 21 upcoming home games during the men’s and women’s 2011-2012 seasons to anyone who had NBA season tickets with the Charlotte Bobcats or any other NBA team last year or for the upcoming locked out season. Also, any game-day employees of the Bobcats are invited to take advantage of this free season ticket offer with more free time coming up as a result of the lockout.
The Falcons want to extend the invitation of free season tickets to more than just the area’s Charlotte Bobcats fans. In honor of Conference Carolinas, the NCAA II league in which Pfeiffer competes in, recently dividing into east and west divisions, the invitation will be open to fans of the other NBA Eastern Conference rivals of the Bobcats as well as all Western Conference opponents.
“We want to be able to give the basketball junkies a dose of basketball at the pure level where players are still excited to play without millions of dollars,” remarked Mary Ann Sunbury, Athletic Director at Pfeiffer University. “We think true basketball fans will love to see basketball at the DII level, they play on both ends of the court!”
College basketball provides an excellent alternative to the NBA game with a shorter three-point line and longer shot clock to allow for more scoring and set plays. “With tickets for Duke and Carolina being nearly impossible to get here in the heart of ACC country, this is great option for area basketball fans to see quality action on the court” stated Sean Fox, Sports Information Director at Pfeiffer. “We have a game atmosphere with music, sound effects, cheerleaders and a band that’s already NBA quality that doesn’t cost fans an arm and a leg to see, especially to only see quality action during the final two minutes of the fourth quarter.”
In addition to the action on the court, Pfeiffer will host several themed-nights such as blackout night and Hawaiian night in a winter-filled January to go with the usual alumni, scholar-athlete and senior nights.
Pfeiffer is located in the village of Misenheimer, North Carolina about 45 minutes northeast of Time Warner Cable Arena, home of the Bobcats. The Falcons and Lady Falcons feature 21 home games this season with eight of those coming as doubleheaders inside Conference Carolinas play. The women will play the first home opener of the year on Tuesday, November 15th at 6:00 p.m. against Anderson while the men will open six days later at 7:30 p.m. against Virginia State.
All home games are played inside the Merner Gym in Misenheimer. Both schedules featuring all home games during 2011-2012 are featured below. Conference Carolinas tilts are marked with an asterisk. For more information, contact Sean Fox, Sports Information Director at 704-463-3192.
