CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Visiting Pfeiffer University held host Queens to just 31% shooting en route to a 69-58 victory in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball action at the Grady Cole Center on Wednesday night. The win pushes the Lady Falcons to 8-5 overall, 3-1 in league play while the Royals fall to 3-10, 1-3.
Trailing most of the first half, Pfeiffer clawed their way back to knot the contest at 22-22 with 6:17 on the clock after a three-ball from Kaela Bellefeuil (Kernersville, NC). Bellefeuil’s triple erased a seven-point deficit for the Lady Falcons. The first visitors lead came with just under three minutes remaining as Jodie Lemons (Madison, NC) drained a pair of free throws to put Pfeiffer up 29-28 to start a string of eight-straight points for Pfeiffer closing out the half.
The Lady Falcons raced out to an 18-point lead coming up on the midway point of the second as Bellefeuil drained another triple along with a layup from leading point scorer Grimsley. A jumper by Brittany Cox (Winston-Salem, NC) maintained the 18-point advantage through the five minute mark during the 11-point win.
Grimsley led the Lady Falcons with 17 points while Lemons added 13. Cox, who played just 90 seconds in the first half due to foul trouble, concluded with 10. Kellie Rhoney (Catawba, NC), who currently ranked in the nation’s top-15 in assists per game, added eight more in the win. Melissa Thomas (Havelock, NC) led the Royals with 21 while Shonice Pettiway (Walstonburg, NC) added 19 points and 11 boards.
