TIGERVILLE, S.C. - Despite a game-high 30 points from Reggie Hollinger, Pfeiffer University fell short in a second half rally falling to North Greenville 85-78 in Conference Carolinas men's basketball on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders move to 9-6 overall, 4-4 in league play while the Falcons drop to 9-8, 3-4.
North Greenville had the lead all afternoon long from the opening basket 57 seconds in until the game's final buzzer. A KC Anuna cut the lead to one three minutes later. After the Crusaders maintained a double-digit lead, Anuna would again try and get the Falcons back in with a jumper at 7:33 to get within five. From there, a 10-0 NGU run led to a 15-point, 46-31, halftime lead.
A pair of Danny Smith free throws with 4:06 remaining to play sliced the deficit to nine later getting to a manageable four after jumper and pair of free throws with 49 ticks left. Pfeiffer would have their chances as North Greenville shot a horrible 4-for-8 from the free throw line in the final seconds, but Pfeiffer turned around as missed three baskets and a free throw to allow North Greenvile to hold on.
Hollinger shot 8-of-16 from the floor on the day while knocking down a dozen of his 16 free throw attempts. Smith followed with 18 while Elijah Matthews chipped in with 12. Chris Dean paced NGU with 26 points and 10 boards while Paul Harrison dropped in 21. The Crusaders shot nearly 59% in the win.
Pfeiffer returns to the hardwood on Tuesday night traveling to Coker for a 7:30 p.m. matchup. The eastern division tilt will feature live stats and video through http://www.gofalconsports.com.
