MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Behind Kellie Rhoney’s (Catawba, NC) triple-double and Brittany Cox’s (Winston-Salem, NC) double-double, Pfeiffer University scored a season-high 105 points during a 105-55 trouncing of St. Andrews in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball action on Thursday night. Rhoney becomes the second person to post a triple-double in league action this season and just the 14th in division two with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists as the Lady Falcons move to 10-9, 5-5 in conference play. The loss sends the Knights to 0-17, 0-10.
Rhoney recorded the historic feat with 6:25 remaining to play in the second after grabbing her 10th and final board of the game. The junior point guard shot 50% from the field going 5-of-10 while adding three steals in 30 minutes of play. Cox recorded a game-high 28 points with 12 rebounds shooting 53% on the night logging just 24 minutes.
A layup by Jodie Lemons (Madison, NC) put Pfeiffer up 12-0 early before St. Andrews got on the board with a basket by Rebecca Bryant (Cincinnati, OH) with 14:16 remaining before the half. The Lady Falcons would add a dozen more points before the Knights’ next points with a pair of Rhoney baskets, two Cox free throws and a triple again by Lemons.
After two free throws and jumper by St. Andrews’ Benee Norton (Atlanta, GA), Kaela Bellefeuil (Kernersville, NC) would knock down back-to-back triples to put the hosts up 22. Bellefeuil would soon add three more to her career-high 17-point night towards the end of the half while Cox and Rhoney each added two in the final 49 of the opening half.
Cox would send the Lady Falcons over the 40-point mark with a triple 2:06 into the second before two quick free throws by Norton and baskets by Kimayah Fulcher (New Bern, NC) temporarily stopped the bleeding. After Rhoney’s rebound that put her on the triple-double platform, the junior turned around to assist her final time of the night on another Cox trey.
Behind Rhoney and Cox, Bellefeuil would end her night with the career-high 17 on 6-of-9 shooting while Brittany Washington (Simpsonville, NC) added 12. Lemons would conclude the night going 4-of-6 from the floor equaling 10 points. The Lady Falcons shot 46% from the field knocking down 14 triples which ties a school-record.
