HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Tucker Hammock registered a second half hat trick, James Shepherd scored two and Hayden Kirk stopped 10 of 11 shots as 10th-ranked Pfeiffer University tallied a 9-1 season opening and Conference Carolinas men's lacrosse victory at Coker College on Friday night. The Falcons win their second-straight opener overall and 2012 league beginner while the Cobras fall to 1-2, 0-1.
The Falcons wasted no time in jumping on the board first as Luke Gillespie scored unassisted just 27 seconds into the contest. Justin Rose followed with his first 1:39 later on an assist from Kory Lutes while Cole Sheen helped out James Shepherd notch his first with 3:49 left in the first quarter.
Just 1:38 into the second, Shepherd tallied his second of the night before turning around to assist Steven Tilmon's goal with 46 seconds left in front of the half as Pfeiffer carried a 5-0 lead into the break.
Hammock would deposit his first of the night as the only strike of the third quarter 2:11 in before starting the fourth with his second just 53 ticks in. Coker's lone goal would come with 11:45 remaining by John Bretton, before Hammock assisted Robert Hope and Rose helped out Hammock for the game's final goals.
Kirk, the reigning NCAA II saves percentage champ, started 2012 where he left off in 2011 stopping 10 Cobra shots in the victory.
