WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SEASON COMES TO AN END WITH 75-65 HOME LOSS TO COKER

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Using a 57-35 rebound margin while getting a double-double out of Kelley Godbout (Matthews, NC), visiting Coker College rolled to a 10-point, 75-65 victory over Pfeiffer University in the Conference Carolinas women’s basketball season finale on Friday night. The Cobras improve to 11-15 overall, 11-6 in league play and will travel to North Greenville for the league tournament’s first round on Monday night. The Lady Falcons see their 2011-2012 season end at 13-13, 8-9.

Coker shot an impressive 56% from the field in the first half bolting out to a 45-34 halftime lead. Within the game’s first 6:59, the Cobras found themselves up 13, 24-11, after a lay in by Godbout. Pfeiffer would get it to as low as seven on a Brittany Cox (Winston-Salem, NC) three with 5:51 to play but a pair of Godbout baskets coupled with one each from Jasmine Evans (Birmingham, AL) and Jessica Cohen (Ladsen, SC) pushed the intermission advantage back to 11 for the visitors.

Coker opened the second half on an 11-5 run thanks to five points from Godbout and four from Amber Lau (Mt. Wolfe, PA) in the first 4:17. The Lady Falcons’ Kaela Bellefeuil (Kernersville, NC) and Lauren Penley (Pfafftown, NC) would stop the run momentarily before a Lucy Fish (Nottingham, ENGLAND) triple put Coker back up 15. A Cox three would get it down to 10 for Pfeiffer with 3:32 left until Cohen scored the game’s final five points for Coker in the 10-point win.

Lau would lead all scorers on the night with 17 points for the Cobras followed by Godbout’s 16 points and 16 boards. Cohen concluded with 13 while Evans and Jasmine Alston (Sumter, SC) each recorded 10. Coker shot 48% overall in the win while holding a commanding +22 rebounding advantage on the boards to go along with 12 blocked shots.

Cox was one of three Lady Falcons in double-figures dropping a team-high 15 while Jodie Lemons (Madison, NC) scored 13. Shelley Reese (Brown Summitt, NC) contributed with 10 playing her final 35 minutes in a Pfeiffer uniform. Pfeiffer shot just 31% in the loss that saw a 24% clip take place in the second half.
