MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University doubled their first-half output scoring 12 goals in the second half en route to an 18-8 victory over visiting Grand Valley State University on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Falcons move to 3-1 on the year while the Lakers drop their inaugural program opener.
Pfeiffer quickly got on the board first as Kristi Korn (Rochester, NY) scored the first of her game-high four less than two minutes in while Sarah Daly (New Market, MD) would sandwich her first of the day in between two Rachel Hebberd (Golden, CO) goals to make it 4-0 Lady Falcons. The Lakers’ Ali Dixon (Farmington Hills, MI) would score the first goal in GVSU program history at the 16:47 mark of the first to get the visitors on the board.
Korn would hit just 17 seconds after Dixon before Sarah Lowe (Okemons, MI) tallied her first from Brooke Ingraham (Rochester Hills, MI). Pfeiffer’s Shannon Bonnel (Mechanicsville, MD) would round out first half scoring on an assist from Lorin Lord (Summerville, SC).
The Lady Falcons took complete control in the second half registering five goals in the first 2:09 of play led by two from Liz Melesh (Annapolis, MD). Alyssa Neuman (Rockford, MI) would stop the bleeding for GVSU with a goal at 26:25 before Bonnel and Melesh hit back-to-back making it 13-3. Lowe would hit two more times for the Lakers on the back half of the period while Natalie Marvin (South Berwick, ME) would score twice more for Pfeiffer.
Korn led all with her four goals on the day followed by three from Bonnel, Melesh and Hebberd. Lowe would lead the Lakers with her three on the day. Pfeiffer would win 20 of the 28 draw controls on the afternoon led by eight from Katherine Athens (Huntingtown, MD) while Kristina Anderson (Gaithersburg, MD) led with six ground balls.
