MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Host Pfeiffer University converted 15 first-half goals en route to a 19-5 victory over Erskine College in Conference Carolinas women’s lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon. The win closes out the home portion of the 2012 schedule for the Lady Falcons pushing them to 8-6 overall, 4-1 in league play, while the Flying Fleet fall to 4-9, 2-3.
Shannon Bonnel (Mechanicsville, MD), Sarah Daly (New Market, MD) and Liz Melesh (Annapolis, MD) got things off to a quick start each striking within the first 5:39. After Erskine’s Kelly Dalziel (Ocean, NJ) put the Fleet on the board, the Lady Falcons would reel off the next eight-straight goals to take an 11-1 lead.
Daly and Melesh would each record two more goals during the eight-goal run covering just over seven minutes while Bonnel, Britton Muir (Woodsboro, MD), Kristina Anderson (Gaithersburg, MD) and Rachel Hebberd (Golden, CO) tallied the others. Samantha Burns (Hilton Head Island, SC) and Alesia Jerrells (Columbia, SC) put home the first of their two on the day in the closing minutes of the first before Bonnel, Hebberd, Anderson and Kristi Korn (Rochester, NY) would help close out the first 30 minutes.
In the second half of play, Katherine Athens (Huntingtown, MD) netted her lone goal of the day 4:11 in while Nadia Salameh (Gaithersburg, MD) got in on the action 3:47 later. Haley Gourdie (Clermont, FL) and Korn would round out Pfeiffer’s 19 goals on the day while Jerrells closed out Erskine’s with 4:39 to play.
Bonnel, Daly and Melesh each led the Lady Falcons with three goals while Melesh added six assists for a nine-point afternoon. Bonnel, Anderson and Laura Shea (Damascus, MD) each scooped up four groundballs while Shea caused a game-high three turnovers.
