MCLAUGHLIN COMES UP WITH MATCH HIGHS ON HIS OWN SENIOR NIGHT AS MEN'S VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS BARTON 3-0; HOST LEES-MCRAE IN TOURNEY OPENER ON SUNDAY

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Playing in his final regular season match on his own senior night, Michael McLaughlin (Aliquippa, PA) led the way with 13 kills hitting .476 as Pfeiffer University swept Barton College 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-14) in Conference Carolinas men’s volleyball action on Wednesday night. The victory improves the Falcons to 19-6 overall, 9-1 in league play, clinching the regular season title and #1 seed for the upcoming tournament. The Bulldogs end its inaugural season 0-17, 0-10.

McLaughlin registered his first kill on the night midway through set one to put the Falcons up 15-9. Quentin Moore (Richmond, VA) and Caleb Brophy (Mission Viejo, CA) would follow suit with their own kills, coupled with Barton errors, as Pfeiffer claimed a five-point, set one win.

Moore and Brophy would help race the Falcons out to a 12-7 advantage in set two before McLaughlin heated up. After a kill by Konstantin Weise (Berlin, GERMANY), McLaughlin would put down three of the sets final seven kills as Pfeiffer took a 2-0 match lead with a 25-17 win.

Barton jumped out to a 5-1 lead in set three on a Zach McCalla (Chesapeake, VA) kill and ace while the Bulldogs cashed in on three-straight Pfeiffer miscues. Moore would turn things around for Pfeiffer moments later in front of McLaughlin serving up one of his two aces on the night. Weise and McLaughlin continued to play well until the end as fittingly, the senior picked up the night’s final kill clinching the sweep for the Falcons.

Behind McLaughlin’s 13 kills, Brophy finished in double-digits with 10 while Weise hit .444 in the victory. David Specian (Loxahatchee, FL) averaged 11 assists per set concluding with 33 while libero Mark Hess (Lebanon, PA) chipped in with nine digs.

Pfeiffer will now advance into the first-ever Conference Carolinas tournament as the top-seed with home court advantage. The Falcons will host fourth-seeded Lees-McRae on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. with live stats and video being available through http://www.gofalconsports.com.
