MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Limestone College used solid pitches in both ends of Thursday’s Conference Carolinas softball doubleheader to sweep Pfeiffer University 3-0 and 4-1 at Jack Ingram Field. The Saints move to 23-25 overall, 13-9 in league play while the Lady Falcons drop to 18-33, 7-13.
All three Saints runs were unearned beginning with one in the second as an infield single Shelby Webb (Hilliard, FL) scored Dallas Heaton (Asheboro, NC). Insurance in the form of two in the seventh aided Limestone as Kirstyn Burleson (Candler, NC) picked up a RBI-single to left while Jordan Smith (Goose Creek, SC) drew a bases loaded walk.
Sadie Saine (Crouse, NC) would start the best inning for the Lady Falcons with a leadoff double in the seventh while Andrea Wagner (Wauseon, OH) followed on a hit-by-pitch, but both runners would be stranded at second and third as the game came to an end.
Webb, despite the Lady Falcons out-hitting the Saints 6-5, got the win in the circle for the Saints going the distance recording the shutout on six hits with three strikeouts.
In game two, Limestone exploded for their four in the fourth starting with a Jenna Guse (Pearland, TX) RBI fielder’s choice. Caroline Childers (Seagrove, NC) would later score on a wild pitch before Alex Aburto (Libertytown, MD) picked up a run-scoring infield-single. Smith finished off the fourth with her own fielder’s choice to score Guse.
Pfeiffer would respond with their lone run in the fourth as an Ashlee Ellen (Jacksonville, FL) infield single off the pitcher Leah Quant (Charlotte, NC) would bring home Celia Dew (Sanford, NC). Quant picked up the complete game win allowing the one run on five hits with five strikeouts.
The Lady Falcons will now advance to their 2012 regular season finale on Saturday at North Greenville with a trip to the Conference Carolinas tournament on the line. First pitch Saturday will be at 1:00 p.m.
