WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL OPENS 2012 WITH TOUGH 0-4 WEEKEND AT FRANCIS MARION INVITATIONAL

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Pfeiffer University opened up the 2012 women's volleyball season dropping all four contests this past weekend at the Francis Marion Invitational. Capsules of all four matches are below.

Mars Hill 3, Pfeiffer 0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-20)
Marissa Wixom led the Lions with 10 kills in the sweep hitting .667 in 15 attempts. Kelly Lancellot paced the Lady Falcons with eight kills hitting .400 for the match. Pfeiffer committed 55 errors in the contest.


Francis Marion 3, Pfeiffer 0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-23)
Paige Perreault led the Patriots with 10 kills as the tournament hosts hit .309 as a team. Jessica Imbimbo and Liz Drewry each followed with nine. Lancellot again led the way for Pfeiffer with 11 kills hitting .421.


USC-Aiken 3, Pfeiffer 0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-15)
The Pacers hit .323 as a team in the sweep with Alyssa Johnson's nine kills leading the way. USCA would also use six team blocks to key the defense. Lancellot, along with Milana Mervosh, had eight kills for the Lady Falcons.


Newberry 3, Pfeiffer 1 (25-16, 26-24, 19-25, 25-9)
The Lady Falcons battled with Newberry falling in a tight 26-24 second set before scoring their first set win of the season 25-19 in set three. Jessica Homrich led Pfeiffer with eight kills in the win. Samantha Parrish paced the Wolves with 11 kills.


Pfeiffer will now host their own tournament on Friday and Saturday hosting the Pfeiffer Invitational. Teams will include Catawba, Queens, Lenoir-Rhyne and Winston-Salem State. Friday's match times are 2/4/6/8pm while Saturday's action starts at 11am. Admission will be $10 for an all day pass each day.
