MISENHEIMER, N.C. - A balanced offensive attack hitting .320 along with 12 blocks on defense propelled Lenoir-Rhyne University to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-12) sweep of host Pfeiffer University in the final match of the 2012 Pfeiffer Invitational on Saturday night. The victory sends the Bears to 3-3 on the year while the Lady Falcons fall to 1-6.
Nine of the 11 players for Lenoir-Rhyne recorded at-least one kill in the sweep led by Ashley Wells (Lovingston, VA) six. Meredith Lutz (Newton, NC) would assist 23 times in Brittany Toffan (Horseheads, NY) led in the blocking department with one solo and eight block assists. The Bears hit over .300 in two of the three sets on Saturday.
Pfeiffer was led by freshman Briana Jones (Atlanta, GA) and her nine kills followed by Kelly Lancellot's (Naples, FL) seven. Newcomer Emily Wall (High Point, NC) assisted a match-high 25 times while Taylor Houser (Mount Holly, NC) popped up eight digs.
Pfeiffer will now turn to Conference Carolinas play opening up the 2012 league slate next Friday and Saturday traveling to Belmont Abbey and Coker.
