WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL GIVES CATAWBA HARD FIGHT IN 3-1 NON-CONFERENCE LOSS ON TUESDAY

SALISBURY, N.C. - Catawba rallied from a set down to top visiting Pfeiffer 19-25, 25-10, 25-14 and 25-23 in volleyball action on Tuesday night at Goodman Gym.  The Catawba Indians even their record at 6-6, while the Falcons fall to 2-10.

Catawba's Kaitlyn Whitmer (Ferrum, VA) led all players with a match-high 22 kills to pace the Lady Indians.  Carson Brewer (Raleigh, NC) added seven kills, 14 digs and a pair of aces, while Alli Parrish (Zebulon, NC) posted eight kills, 17 assists, two aces and a pair of blocks.  Kaytee Frabotta (Sterling Heights, MI) was pressed into starting duty with an illness to setter Jordan Raye (Boonville, NC) and the freshman handed out 25 assists and collected eight digs, an ace and a block.
 
Pfeiffer was led by Milana Mervosh (Roebuck, SC), who had 10 kills and six digs, while Kelly Lancellot (Naples, FL) and Brianna Jones (Atlanta, GA) each had seven kills.  Anna Vizvary (North Augusta, SC) had four blocks and Cate Glendenning (Holly Springs, NC) 16 digs.
 
The Lady Indians scored the opening six points that included an ace by Parrish, but Pfeiffer stormed right back with eight straight on the serve of Taylor Houser (Mount Holly, NC).  Houser had two aces, while Jones added three kills and a block.  The Falcons led 20-19 when Lancellot and Mervosh delivered kills then Meghan Davis (Fulton, MO) served two aces on the final three points to close out the set.
 
Catawba rolled in set two.  The Lady Indians jumped out 9-0 on Frabotta's serve.  She had an ace and Whitmer five kills in the surge.  The Lady Indians took control of set three with a 7-1 run midway through to go up 17-9.  The run had kills from Parrish and Rachel Gallup (Fredericksburg, VA) and five Falcon errors.  Brewer had a kill and an ace and Whitmer two kills as Catawba reeled off the final four points.
 
The Lady Indians led set four 12-10 after a kill from Parrish, but Pfeiffer ran off seven straight points that included two kills from Lancellot and an ace by Davis to go up 17-12.  A kill from Amber Wooten (East Bend, NC) put the Falcons up 23-21, but Whitmer had a kill and Gallup and Parrish a combo block to tie the set.  Gallup followed with a solo block and a Falcon error ended the match.
 
Gallup had three blocks and four kills on the night.  Libero Jenny Young (Roanoke, VA) picked up 27 digs.  Pfeiffer will be idle until it returns to league play on Friday and Saturday a part of Homecoming Weekend 2012.
