MEN'S BASKETBALL TO OPEN UP 2012-2013 WITH EXHIBITION CONTEST AT CHARLOTTE 49ERS ON NOVEMBER 1ST

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team will begin the 2012-13 campaign by traveling down to Charlotte for an exhibition contest at Atlantic-10 member University of North Carolina-Charlotte, head coach Jeremy Currier and athletic director Mary Ann Sunbury announced on Monday morning. The Falcons and 49ers will tip off the new season on Thursday, November 1st at 7 p.m. inside Halton Arena.

The Falcons will meet a 49er team that returns 10 letter winners and three starters from 2011-12 which finished with a 13-17 record. Among that group, the 49ers will return All-A10 selection Chris Braswell and All-Rookie Team Pierria Henry.

“We are extremely excited and thankful for the opportunity to play Charlotte this season,” said Currier. “Coach Major and his staff have always been great to us, and this will be a great experience for our coaches, players, and university as we bring in the 2012-13 season.”

The 2012-13 Falcons have added some size and depth to their front line with center Silvere Aluko (6’11’’), forward Mark Goods (6’7’’), forward Rashawn Speas (6’7’’), forward Tariq Martin (6’6’’), forward CJ Woodberry (6’6’’) and forward Seth Still (6’5’’).

“I am encouraged by development we have seen this preseason,” stated Currier. “We have a group of young men that are tough minded and united in their efforts of working towards a championship. Having a Division I game so close to home provides an opportunity for all of the Pfeiffer community to come out and support our players.”

The Falcons will begin the regular season the following weekend hosting the annual Highway 52 Shootout inside the Merner Gymnasium on November 10th and 11th. Pfeiffer opens up Saturday action against the University of Virginia-Lynchburg at 8:00 p.m. following Catawba and Livingstone tipping at 6:00 p.m. Winners will meet in the championship on Sunday at 4:00 p.m.

Tickets will be available for $5 with details being released in the coming weeks via Facebook and Twitter for Pfeiffer Athletics and basketball.
