BANNER ELK, N.C. - Playing for 110 minutes on Saturday afternoon didn't decide an outcome as Lees-McRae College hosted Pfeiffer University to a scoreless draw in double overtime. The Conference Carolinas men's soccer match sees the Bobcats move to 3-8-1 overall, 2-3-1 in league play while the Falcons slide to 0-10-2, 0-5-1.
Statistically, Lees-McRae held a 38-8 advantage in shots, 12-3 on goal being unable to find the back of the net. Zach Liles would make 10 saves in the match coming on in relief of Cristian Padilla who made two first half stops.
Lees-McRae had a golden opportunity to grab the lead and a possible win in the 75th minute until James Galvani's penalty kick was turned aside by Liles in net. Kyle Toler and Houston Armstrong had shots for Pfeiffer towards the end of regulation while Liles would need to make two saves back-to-back in the 84th and 85th minutes of play.
Best shot Pfeiffer had in the first OT was a corner kick from Niko Andrade. In the second extra session, Trevor Dean would have one last shot with a header after anotehr Andrade corner kick in the 109th minute firing wide left.
Pfeiffer will now move on to their next contest traveling to North Greenville on Wednesday night. Match time is set for 6:00 p.m.
