HIGH POINT, N.C. – Pfeiffer University’s Brittany Cox has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Women’s Basketball Player of the Week during week nine of the 2012–2013 Basketball season. Cox helped the Lady Falcons to a pair of exciting wins over Mount Olive and North Greenville averaging 26.5 points.
On Wednesday hosting Mount Olive, Cox dropped in 24 points, 18 of those in the second half, as the Lady Falcons narrowly took a 62-61 victory over the Trojans. Cox shot 69% from the floor (9-of-13) hitting on 6-of-9 threes (67%) in her 35 minutes of action. The senior guard also added seven rebounds, three assists and a block assisting on the eventual game-winning three.
In an 86-71 overtime win against North Greenville, Cox dropped in 29 against the Crusaders on 48% shooting (10-of-21) while connecting on 5-of-10 triples and all four free throws. In the blowout 20-5 overtime run, Cox accounted for the Lady Falcons first five points while later hitting on a pair of free throws with 61 seconds left. Cox posted the double-double on Saturday adding 10 rebounds in her 35 minutes of play with two more assists, a steal and three blocks.
For the week, Cox averaged her 26.5 points on 56% shooting from the floor going 19-of-34. The guard drained 11 threes in the week shooting 58% from behind the arc while averaging 8.5 rebounds (17 total). Five assists and four blocks would compliment the senior's week.
Next up for the Falcons will be a Monday trip to Barton before taking on Coker and Converse in a three-game week.
