SALISBURY, N.C. - Catawba, ranked 13th in NCAA II, opened its 2013 season with a 7-0 victory over visiting Pfeiffer in baseball action on Friday afternoon at Newman Park.  Nick Lomascolo (Mooresville, NC) tossed seven shutouts to lift the Catawba Indians in the opener for both teams.

Lomascolo surrendered just two hits and fanned five in the opening win.  A two-out, two-run single from Julio Zubillaga (China Grove, NC) in the bottom of the first provided the only runs the Indians would need.  Newcomers Dylan Richardson (Randleman, NC0 and Paul Kronenfeld (Greensboro, NC) each had three hits, while Ethan Satterfield (Madison, NC) joined Zubillaga with a pair of RBI.

After two were out in the Catawba first, Kronenfeld drew a walk and Chris Dula (Troutman, NC) blooped a double to right field.  Zubillaga followed with his single to plate both runners.  Richardson singled home Danny Parisi (Shirley, NY), who had doubled, then scored himself on a Pfeiffer error to up the lead to 4-0 after two innings.

Dula scored on a double steal with Cameron Cockman (Pleasant Garden, NC) in the third and Satterfield plated the final two runs with RBI groundouts in the fourth and sixth innings.  Pfeiffer's best chance to score came in the eighth inning as the Falcons loaded the bases with one out.  Will Johnson (Faith, NC) got a double play ball to end the frame then pitched the ninth to close out the win.

Pfeiffer was limited to just four hits on the day.  Johnny Brown (Greensboro, NC) had the lone extra-base hit with a double in the sixth.  Bryan Tuttle (Lenoir, NC) took the loss for the Falcons.  He allowed six runs, four earned, over four and a third innings of work.
