MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Visiting Carson-Newman College opened up a one-run game with a three-run fourth and four-run seventh to take a 10-3 victory over Pfeiffer University in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles even to 2-2 on the young year while the Falcons drop their home opener falling to 0-4.
Pfeiffer started off on the right foot using Kyle Hackney and Matt Wade RBI-singles in the bottom of the first snagging a 2-0 lead. Carson-Newman would respond with a run in the third and two in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. Things would open up in the fourth with three more Eagles runs before a Bo Ausmus three-run homer started the four-run seventh. Pfeiffer would tack on one more run in the ninth as Hackney and Wade once again provided the offense as Wade's double drove in Hackney after his leadoff single.
Hackney would finish the day 3-for-4 with a RBI and run scored while Wade concluded 2-for-4 with a pair of runs driven in. Carson-Newman would outhit Pfeiffer 12-9 and take advantage of three Falcon errors.
Next up for the Falcons will be a weekend tournament in Asheboro hosted by the Asheboro Copperheads. Pfeiffer will battle nationally-ranked Catawba twice in a rematch of last weekend and tangle with Barton in a non-conference tilt Saturday and Sunday.
