BASEBALL SCORES FIRST WIN OF 2013 WITH 6-4 VICTORY OVER BREVARD

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Pfeiffer University finally broke into the win column on Tuesday afternoon scoring a 6-2 victory over visiting Brevard College in non-conference baseball action at Joe Ferebee Field. The Falcons improve to 1-7 on the year while the Tornados fall to 2-3.

Brevard's Champ Stuart broke open a scoreless contest leading off the third as he drilled the first pitch of the inning over the wall in center for a 1-0 Tornados lead. Pfeiffer would strike back in the their half of the third as Kevin Price began the frame with a leadoff double to left-center while Johnny Brown, Jr. moved him to third on a base hit to left. Aarin Sharpe and Kyle Hackney would then follow with a run-scoring singles to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. Jon Gray would wrap up the third adding Pfeiffer's third run with a RBI-single lined to center.

In the fourth, Cole McGraw began the inning with an infield single to first while Daniel Furr followed with a five-pitch walk. After Kevin Price moved runners to second and third, Brown, Jr. would lift a sacrifice-fly into right plating McGraw to extend the advantage out to 4-1.

The Tornados cut the lead in half during the sixth when Kody Spencer blasted a solo home run to left cutting the lead down to 4-2. Pfeiffer responded a half-inning later again as a Jacob Yates lead off walk and stolen base led to the fifth run of the day after Cole McGraw singled to right. Brown, Jr. would strike again driving in McGraw with a two-out single to left. Scoring would end in the top of the ninth as Stuart blasted his second homer of the day with a two-run shot to left-center.

Josh Branch would pick up the first win of the season tossing the first five frames allowing one run on five hits with a pair of strikeouts. McGraw would finish the day going 3-for-4 at the plate with a RBI and pair of runs scored. Brown, Jr. and Sharpe would each collect two hits at the top of the lineup. Stuart, Spencer and Bennett Hixson each had a pair of hits for Brevard.

Pfeiffer will now look towards their 2013 Conference Carolinas opener hosting Belmont Abbey in game one of a three-game series on Friday afternoon. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. with live stats available at http://www.gofalconsports.com. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 12:00 p.m.
