MISENHEIMER, N.C. Ė Visiting Lindenwood used 13 total team blocks to help secure a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 26-24) victory over host Pfeiffer University in non-conference menís volleyball action on Saturday afternoon. The Lions improve to 8-6 overall while the Falcons drop to 8-5.
The Lions would grab an early 4-3 lead in set one on a kill from Colin Hackworth (Dublin, OH) and not look back. Kills by Eric Edelman (Henrietta, NY) and Micah Bortner (Dallastown, PA) would bring the Falcons back to within two midway through the set while both got the deficit down to just one at 16-15. Three-straight attack errors by the Falcons would provide the final margin for Lindenwood as Hackworth eventually put down the final kill of the set for a 1-0 match lead.
The middle set saw the Lions bolt out to a 17-12 lead on a Michael Adams (St. Louis, MO) ace and error by the Falcons. An ace by Caleb Brophy (Mission Viejo, CA) and killer by Fabio Diniz (Belo Horizonte, BRAZIL) would get Pfeiffer within three at 22-19 before getting to 23-21 on back-to-back putdowns from Edelman and Diniz. A final kill by Adams and another attack miscue by the Falcons aided Lindenwood in their 25-21 set two final.
Set three needed extra points to decide the outcome as a Diniz kill and Lindenwood error forced a Lions timeout with a slim 23-22 lead. A pair of Lindenwood errors would keep Pfeiffer in the match on two different match points until a final attack error by the Falcons finished off the sweep for the Lions.
Adams and Hackworth each led the Lions with eight kills on the day while Brophy had a match-high nine for the Falcons. Neither team would hit very well in the afternoon matinee while Lindenwood used their 13-9 blocking advantage with six solo blocks to provide the difference.
