DEW POWERS LADY FALCON SOFTBALL TO DH SPLIT WITH UMASS-LOWELL; PFEIFFER TAKES GAME TWO 7-3

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Pfeiffer University softball team split a Monday afternoon doubleheader with visiting UMass-Lowell at Jack Ingram Field. The River Hawks needed just five innings to pick up an 11-1 victory in the opener while the Lady Falcons bounced back for a 7-3 victory in the nightcap. Pfeiffer moves to 5-7 on the year while UML slides to 2-4.

The River Hawks would score in all five innings in game one using a two-run homer in the first and the big hit of inning two, a two-run single to center. Pfeiffer's lone bright spot of game one came in the fourth as a Hannah Jackson (Greensboro, NC) leadoff single to center paid off after a Lindsey Russell (Huntersville, NC) double to left-center. The River Hawks would complete game one by adding four in the fourth to take their double-digit victory.

In game two, an Alyssa Zinkiewicz RBI-single put UML on the board first in the second, before Pfeiffer responded with three in the third to take an early lead. Emily Workman (Vale, NC) and Celia Dew (Sanford, NC) traded one-out doubles while Jackson later delivered a sacrifice-fly. Dew would score just before Jackson's fly ball on a throwing error by the River Hawks.

UML battled back to tie things in the fourth on a Lady Falcons error and two-run single by Danielle Crutcher. For the final time, Pfeiffer put three up in the fifth and an insurance run in the sixth to earn the split. In the fifth, Dew would plate the first run on a wild pitch before a Jaclyn Boever (Bostic, NC) sac-fly and Russell double to left finished off the three-run frame. Insurance in the form of a Jackson RBI double capped off the sixth.

Dew would lead the way offensively for the Lady Falcons with a 4-for-7 afternoon with a RBI and three runs scored. Workman would pick up two hits in the opener while Khristin Isley (Asheboro, NC) recorded a pair of hits in game two. Russell in the game two win in relief tossing four innings of shutout softball scattering three hits with three strikeouts.

The Lady Falcons return to action on Wednesday hosting Lenoir-Rhyne for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader. Live stats will be available courtesy of http://www.gofalconsports.com.
