BELMONT, N.C. - Both Pfeiffer University tennis teams opened up 2013 Conference Carolinas play with identical 6-1 victories over Belmont Abbey College on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Falcons win their fourth-straight improving to 4-3 overall, 1-0 in league play while the Falcon men pick up their fourth-straight moving to 4-2, 1-0.
The Lady Falcons picked up all three points in doubles play as Taylor Lindsay/Valeria Mendoza doubled up 8-4 at #1 while Chelsi Haefele/Hannah Watson shutout their opponents at #2 8-0. Briana Oliver/Melinda Athay cruised 8-2 in the #3 position. In singles, Watson, Mendoza and Haefele picked up points while Oliver and Kaleigh Featherstone did not finish their matches due to darkness.
On the men's side, Luis Villalta/Orlando Castillo picked up an 8-3 win at #2 while Ethan Lyon/Sebastian Wernecke won 8-6 at #3. Pfeiffer carried the 2-1 lead into singles where Loic Minery, Wernecke, Ben Hunter and Villalta were all victorious. Bret Williams, along with Lyon, were also unable to finish due to darkness.
Both Pfeiffer teams get back to action on Friday traveling to Brevard before getting back in conference play on Saturday at North Greenville.
